Medina 55+

Posted by Claudia Fontana at Mar 31, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

A great opportunity and BIG thanks to Sue B and Nita for hosting a great event at Medina Rec.

A social gathering of local players had the opportunity to play in a  Round Robin tounament. Sue and Nita made everyone very welcome and we all enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the awesome court set up. Humanna donated some nets to the event and made it that much better. The social event and laughter made it that much more fun.

All players enjoyed the competition and many made new friends in the area. The 55+ crowd has some real skill and we are a group to be watched.

Some of our Winners were Claudia F and Mark D. Giving the upper North of NEO a good representation.

It was great fun and fine example to emulate for a fun local tourney.

Volley Paddle Practice for Small Group

Posted by Claudia Fontana at Mar 19, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

With 4-6 players in a circle/square formation, players will continuously keep the ball in play.

This drill will work on consistency and paddle control while volleying between players.

Players will attempt to keep the ball in play as long as possible in a cooperative play action drill.

Success can be measured by the length of time the ball is volleyed successfully before a drop. Either by a watch or by the number of volleys kept in play

Progression:

1. To make the drill more challenging make the circle bigger or smaller .

2. Hit it to the same player each time you receive it

3. Have the circle move clockwise and then reverse

4. Alternate backhand or forehand only

5. Add balls

Singles Half court game

Posted by Claudia Fontana at Mar 15, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Using only half the court length wise a singles game of control is the key.

Using the single scoring method  player 1 serves from his/her EVEN court (rt side)  to player 2's EVEN court as if in regulation play.

Player 1 will then switch over to his/her ODD court (lt side) to play out a 1 on 1 game within this half of the entire court til a point or side-out.

All shots MUST stay within that half of the court and play continues until a point is scored or a side-out is made by player 2.

If player 1 wins the rally and scores? He/she will now serve from his/her ODD court to player 2's ODD court. Player 1 will cross over to his/her even court side to play on that half of the court. Play continues until a point is scored or a sideout has been won.

If player 2 wins the rally for a side-out, he/she will do the same. Start serving from the EVEN court and switch courts to play the half court game.

Keep score to 5 or 7 or by time.  Keep the games short in length and work on ball control from ALL areas of the court.

If you have 4 players and want to work on control?

Continue to play 1 on 1 but DON'T serve cross court. Just serve straight across on the same side. Play for a time limit and then switch sides to work both side lines.
