Faults Rule #7

Posted by Claudia Fontana at Jan 20, 2015 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

This Section of the Rule book tells us about WHAT IS A CONSIDERED a FAULT

Pay special attention to RULE # 7. F

We saw this twice this week. Play by the rules. We don't have too far to walk to get a ball. So we play by the rules.

Tourney or not,  it's important to know the rule and follow it.

7.F as stated in the IFP Rules book:

The ball in play strikes a player or anything the player is wearing or carring. There is one exception to this rule: if the ball strikes the player's paddle hand below the wrist, the ball is still in play. If the ball strikes a player standing out of bounds before a fault has occurred, that player loses the rally. In doubles, if the serve strikes the receiver's partner, it is a point for the serving team, providing it is not a let serve or a fault serve. This rule also includes balls that appear to be hit out of bounds. During play, if you catch the ball or try to stop it from heading out of bounds, you lose the rally.

Be mindful of ALL the rules.. Be sure to read them and know what to expect on the court.

A Tourney format

Posted by Claudia Fontana at Jan 19, 2015 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

I'd like to try a Round Robin Tourney during a session that we have lots of players. It's something different to keep the pace and play for all interesting.

I made up some Round Robin brackets from 4 - 10 players per court. always Depending on how many show. I know it sounds like a lot but we never know how many people or how many extra courts we will have per night. Depending on how many players we have we can pick the tourney of the session. If we have 12 players that night we would split into 6 players per court if we have two courts or if we have 3 courts we  will split 4 per court and so on.. We can group by random selection or by rating. We'll have to discuss the details. Again this always depends on how many or who shows up.

I encourage you to rate yourself honestly.. This will keep the competition of this type of format enjoyable for all. Better to rate your self a little lower. All this ALSO depends on the who comes to play.

We are playing OPEN PLAY and everryone should have the same opportunity for court time.

If you know of an interesting way to play or organize to keep it FAIR playing time for all, please let me know your plan. I'm open to suggestions.

So please try to come and be there at starting time so we can place people in groups. I'll plan to start a Tourney Format within 15 minutes of the start time..  First 15 minutes will be for warm up time.

It would be fun to try.. We can do it by player ratings or for open play.

It for fun and recreational purposes. We are ALL here to enjoy the game and the social atmosphere.

Be sure to Check the BIG YELLOW BOARD for Play of the Day in any case.

CHARTING.. if we try this tourney format there will be need to chart scores as well as wins and losses.

Each court will be responsible for recording the winner and loser as well as the score of the match in case of a tie in the standing for the session.

Obviously the more courts we get the less waiting and more playing. But we never know what each day will bring.

Maybe we can try this???

Check the BIG YELLOW board when you arrive each session to see what the play of the day is as well as check out the player rating sheet. See where your skills fit in.. If you need help let me know.

Just a reminder to check out USAPA.org for current places to play and become familiar
